Fifth + Tillery is a 180,000-square-foot office campus just east of downtown Austin, TX. The space reimagines the potential of the modern workplace by reviving a post-industrial site into a vibrant indoor-outdoor creative office building. The design concept infused industrial surroundings with green spaces to focus on sustainability and well-being. Timber use was a pivotal goal to help reduce the project’s overall carbon footprint. Drilled piers support the building structure, where we utilized a hybrid timber structure of long-span glulams paired with steel columns and concrete over a long-span metal deck. Cuts from the glulam structure were repurposed as benches throughout the public space, creating a dynamic social environment. The large courtyard featuring much of the timber along the outdoor walkways steals the show.
